The Positives and Negative That the Greasers Have Without Parents

The book The Outsiders is about two different gangs. S.E Hinton, the author, wrote the book. My essay is about how they learned many negative things on the street . There are also many positives to having no parents and living on the streets at such a young age. They’ve also missed out on a lot of things having no parents.
There are many negative things they learned while growing up on their own. One of the many is fighting. Another is smoking. The smoking calms them down but they don’t know that it affects their health. The one thing that I find the worst is that they don’t think school is important. It is though if they don’t go to school they won’t get a proper education, which means they can’t get a job which also means that they won’t make money. Also they never leave their homes without a switchblade just in case they get jumped or want to rob a store.
There are also many positive things. They’ve learned to be responsible, especially Darry. They would have been separated if they weren’t responsible. They also learned that sticking up for each other is a big part of being in a gang. They learn quickly and they learn on their own. If they ever need to learn something new, they can learn quickly without any parents. As a result, it has given them common sense. That is a very good tool on the streets
Living pretty much your whole life without your parents would be the worst. They’ve missed out on all the love your parents give you. They might still have family but without your parents its not the same. Going to the rink and your parents giving you money for candy. Going to the city to go clothes shopping. they would have missed out on just sitting down to have a meal with the family.
I think if the Greasers would have grown up with parents in their lives, they would be totally different. They would have had more positive things happen to them. But instead they have more negative things growing up without parents.
