The Practicality of Team Charters Carrie J. Mulcahy University of Phoenix Management 521 Samuel Cunningham November 3, 2008 The Practicality of Team Charters “Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean.” (Saturo, N.D.) The formation of a charter to organize team member’s strengths, ideals, proposals related to goal achievement, conflict management and resolution form a collaborative and proactive roadmap. This composition will analyze the practicality of team charters through review of Management 521 Team “C” cooperative charter which includes team characteristics, key points of a viable charter, academic team charter discussion and how team charters can be used in a practical manner in the workplace. Team Characteristic Review Management Team “C” (Carrie, Nancy, Pam and Ryan) completed personality assessments to understand their own personality tendencies (basic personality traits, ability to trust others and listening skills). All team members shared his or her personality assessment outcomes with the other team members. The Jungian assessment results revealed that team members had mutual personality similarities (INTP – socially cautious, problem solver, conceptual, moderately trusting, fair listener) (ENTP- innovative, individualistic, versatile, good listener, moderately trusting) (INTJ – skeptical, critical, independent, moderately trusting, good listener) and (ENFP- people-oriented, creative, optimistic, very trusting and a fair listener) yet; four entirely different personalities. Therefore, those areas in which team C exceeds are also those areas that present opportunities for growth and unison as a team. With these traits in mind, a charter for this team develops concrete guidelines that incorporate member strengths and establishes plans of action to take when the team is off course.
