Pros and Cons of Wind Power

Wind is resource of our planet that is usually overlooked. Wind is always around whether it is a gentle breeze or a fierce gust it is always around. People today are starting to realize that and are starting to turn to the power of the wind for energy even though wind energy has been used for hundreds of years. Farmers and their windmills have been in use for hundreds of years. But only recently have people been making turbine engines capable of capturing the power of the wind and converting it to energy for human use.
There are some great pros to wind energy. The first being that there are no CO2 emissions from wind, wind is a clean source of energy. The second being, the cost of the wind, the primary cost is during the construction and there is no fuel costs to run the wind farm. The marginal cost of wind after the plant is constructed is close to zero. And the third being that as our technology advances, the cost of wind production energy will just get lower and lower.
This sounds wonderful, but there are always some negatives about something. There is no such thing as a sure thing. Here are three cons for wind energy. First, wind farms take up vast amounts of land. The turbines need room to work properly. So space is an issue. Second, wind turbines have an effect on migrating birds and bats. The turbines kill thousands of birds and bats because they are built in the migratory paths. Birds of prey are killed also because they follow their prey into these wind turbines. And finally, the wind turbines are noisy and create problems aesthetically for those that live nearby these wind farms.
As you can see, wind might become energy of the future, but we have to fix its problems now before we can tap the power of the wind.
