I worked as a computer programmer for one year and have two years’ career in advertising companies. Based on these different fields’ work experiences, my ultimate goal is to be a brand manager in the IT industry.
Korea is well known as one of the most advanced countries in IT industry. However, in this attractive size and quality of an IT market, I think that it is hard to find real brand managers in the IT communication area. They are almost all former developers and industrial designers, so they are weak at marketing strategy and having insights on consumers. This fact made me decide to continue my study at this school’s program so that I could strengthen my knowledge to be a real brand manager in the Korean IT industry in the near future.
During my stay at advertising companies for about two years, I handled many projects related to various kinds of brands such as pharmaceutical products, apartment brands, and a private loan company. My contribution and planning ability were highly evaluated by the seniors but I still felt that I was missing something in the field. In fact, my planning ability was for winning the bid on a deal, not for brand’s equity and it had only a shallow marketing strategy. I became frustrated and then began looking for the best way to complement my incompetence. I needed to improve my knowledge for moving on to the next level.
The two-year working experience at the department of account services allowed me to interact closely with customers and clients. I think that it is the time to advance into brands as a real planner. I have always asked myself what the brand’s problems are and how to find potential solutions; I could not yet get answers to those problems. I think that I could find the answer at the this College of Business which would help me have strategic insights based on my creative thoughts by core courses and electives.
