Smick, author of the book The World is Curved: Hidden dangers to the global economy and the chairman and CEO of Johnson Smick International, Inc. is a global financial strategist, author and an editor. His book The World is Curved was called as one of the top three books on the financial crisis by the former president Bill Clinton. A gold medal was conferred by the Axiom Business Book Awards and termed the book as yea’s “best book on international business/globalization”. The insight that Mr. Smick has about the subject is evident from the vast and diverse experience he has ranging from serving as the Chief of Staff to the member of the leadership of the US House of Representatives to being appearing regularly on Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post and the New York Times.

I found this book as a must read for everyone who is looking for a better understanding of the present financial crisis, what caused it, and what is needed to be done to be better able to face anything of this magnitude in future. This book is a very well thought and written endeavor by Mr. Smick, who clearly understand what we are going through and where we might end up if various issues such as trade protectionism and pressure on US policymakers from various sources which push and panic them in making serious blunders are not addressed. This is a book that deals with potentially “hard to understand” issues for most of the people in a way which is easy to understand and follow, a great way of communicating ideas without heavily relying of the Wall Street Business parlance.
As one may expect majority of this book deals with the issues that are faced by the economy in an open market era, it also deals with how politics and passion and a strong political will are an absolute must for the future to be a better one.
