Thinking About Diversity and Inclusion
In this paper I, the author will explore the benefits of cultural diversity and describe the dimensions of cultural diversity. The learner will identify and briefly explain the dimensions by referencing both textbooks. The author will discuss with what ethnic, cultural, or other groups he or she can identify with and describe what members his or her social circle have in common. The writer will state the difference between diversity and inclusion. The author will discuss the importance of workplace diversity training and share her experience with workplace culture. After describing inclusion in a workplace the writer will then, explain if there should have been more inclusion in the situation.
The primary dimensions are permanent and significant to an individual’s identity is not limited to an individual’s mental and physical capabilities. To be culturally diverse a community must inhabit residents of different races, religions, or different groups. These varieties of human societies in a region are combined within the workplace. Ethnic communities are composed of groups, families, organizations, and communities of people such as African Americans, Asians/Pacific Islanders, Hispanics/Latinos, Native Americans, Arabs/Chaldeans, and English-speaking people of West Indian descent, Africans, and Caucasians (Woodroffe & Spencer, 2003). The dimensions of diversity are not limited to race or ethnicity but also include age, gender, and intelligence. In recent times, the dimensions of culture have expanded to include one’s sexual preference, one’s financial circumstances and social status.
