Thinking of Plagiarism

1. Introduction
Nowadays, more and more students plagiarize. Some students think plagiarism is cheating because the behaviors are dishonest. Although it will .make them get high mark and also can save their time, but that behavior cannot be accepted. However, in my opinion, plagiarism does not equal cheating. Plagiarism has many reasons. One of the reason is they are lazy, on the other hand, the reason for plagiarism is the difficulty students experience in paraphrasing and citing. In particular are the international students, because the English is their secondary language. They cannot understand the essay’s requirement and also they cannot correct paraphrase and cite.

2. The definition of plagiarism
At first, students should know what plagiarism is. Many students think of plagiarism is just use the similarity word or ideas to express their idea or borrow someone’s idea, both of them are not correct. The definition of “plagiarize” in the Longman dictionary (Summers, 2003) is: “to take words or ideas from another person’s work and use them in your work, without stating that they are not in your own.”(P.1246). Change another word, plagiarism can also call fraud. It involves both stealing some people’s work. Somehow, students are often making unintentional mistakes for many reasons: poor or incorrect understanding of plagiarism, poor academic writing skills, teaching or learning issue, laziness or in order to convenience, pressures, and another reason for plagiarism is the popularity of internet.(Devlin&Gray,2007) Therefore, for most of students they don’t know how to paraphrase and cite. We admit that some of students they cannot did not aware that the serious of plagiarism, in the worst which is they are pride in plagiarizing. But the majority of students they don’t like do that.
