My Name

Kirthayannee is my name. I don’t know what my name means in English or Tamil. But my mother once told me that my name comes from another country, I am sure, but it’s not a Malaysian name. It’s long and has twelve letters, and it is hard to pronounce for others.
I think my name is unique because I never met anyone with my name. So many people make up my name different because they can’t say it correctly. My family and my friends in my country call me “Kirthi”, but my friends in the U.S. call with so many different names, “Kitty, Kithi, Kirtha, and some even call me “kitty kitty meow meow” because my name sounds like a cat. But I don’t find any letter that sounds like a cat, except “kitty”.
My parents chose this name because they wanted my name to rhyme with my sibling’s name. All our names rhyme and end with “Yannee”. My older sister’s name is Tahhaiyanee, mine is Kirthayannee, and my young sister’s name is Jeevethayannee. The only one that is different is my younger sister. She has a different name that doesn’t rhyme with the rest of us, Maithili.
I have always liked my name. My older sister’s name sounds weird with the “hhai”, but people call her Tacha. And my younger sister’s name is the hardest one I think, because I can’t say her name correctly. To make it easier, everyone calls her “Jeeva”. My youngest sister’s name has no problem. It’s the easiest one out of all the sistersin my family.
