Three Social Classes

Three Social Classes

Writing Assignment #2
According to the world systems theory, there are 3 social classes in which countries are divided up by. There are core countries, periphery countries, and semi periphery countries. Core countries such as the United States and Canada focus on higher skill, capital jobs, and some examples might include businesses that might sell goods made from the labor of other more labor focused countries such as China. These core countries thrive off the other countries because third world countries don’t have the same health and working regulations that keep us from overworking getting underpaid. These third world countries rely mostly on the labor force of women and children since they don’t get the same protection as places such as the United States or Canada. Without countries like these a lot of businesses in America would fail since they solely rely on the cheap labor that countries such as China provide them.
The United States would not be the same without the cheap labor that comes from periphery and semi periphery countries. We rely on other countries to cheaply farm for the resources we need, and we are able to buy these resources because the people who work really hard all their lives to extract these resources are only paid a fraction of the minimum wage we earn here. The unfortunate people who put hours and hours of blood sweat and tears into tedious work usually get paid less than a dollar a day, and in a way this can be considered modern day slavery. These poor people who are born into that social class have almost no way of getting out of it, as they are forced to do heavy labor while only getting paid a few pennies an hour. That kind of money is barely enough to even put food on the table for your own self, not to mention the cost for a house, water and a family. There is also the problem of health care that these people face. Working 10 hours a day with little to no break will wear down the human body in a miniscule amount of time....
