Allocentric – Someone who is a risk-taker and prefers to travel somewhere no one has before. Ex. Nathan wants to hike through the Amazon jungle, he is allocentric Agricultural tourism – The practice of attracting travelers or visitors to an area used primarily for agricultural purposes. Ex. Agricultural tourism is growing among Canadians Common currency – Traveling to a country and being able to withdraw local currency with your debit or credit card. Ex. I used my Visa to withdraw common currency in Mexico Culinary tourism – The pursuit of unique and memorable eating and drinking experiences. Ex. Culinary tourism is popular among the wealthier crowd. Demographics – Travelers age, occupation, education, income level, and marital status. Ex. Bungee jumping is aimed at the 18-30 year old demographic Discretionary income – Money people may spend on what they want. Ex. Families sometimes choose to spend their discretionary income on a vacation Discretionary time – Time away from work and other obligations. Ex. Many people use their discretionary time to go on vacation Domestic tourist – People traveling within their own country, staying for at least 24hours and traveling at least 80kms from their home. Ex. Pete is a domestic tourist Ecotourism – Travel that is intended to support the study of earth’s biodiversity. Ex. George enjoys ecotourism Excursionist – Someone who travels 80kms from his or her home but does not stay 24hours. Ex. Waterton see’s many excursionists Extrovert – Person who is outgoing and uninhibited in interpersonal situations. Ex. Stacy is very extrovert Foreign tourist – Person visiting a different country then where they live for at least 24 hours. Ex. James is a foreign tourist Guests – Outside visitors who have come to be entertained by the people of a community or region. There will be thousands of guests for the 2010 Olympics Hosts – Individuals, communities, or regions that entertain the visiting guests. Ex. Vancouver is hosting...
