trade unions formed in the late 1800s as a response to the harsh and unfair treatments toward labors in the bactories. although the trade unions were successful in expanding their power and organizing tunions, they failed to achiecve their goals.
the trade unions were very good at organizing the unions. due to harsh and unfair treatment toward the workers, such as long working hours, bad working conditions. Unions such as Knites of Labor would encourage people to join. also, most of the labor unions do not have much restrictions on eligibility of people to join. since mostly everyone is able to join a union, and would like to join a union hoping to change their current bad working conditiosn, the power of the trade unions increased tremondously since they have many people. with more people and more power, the treade unions would voice their opinions and achieve their goals more easily. the membership of the National Labor Union had as many as 7000 at its peak, which formed a formidable power. the trade unions used methods such as bargaining with companies, supporting politicians to get their favorable laws passed and organizing strikes and demonstrations. this hswos that the unions were well organized because they had good plans to work on instead of working aimlessly. in general, the labor unions were successful in organizing themselves into great power.
the labor unions failed to achieve their economic goals. many harsh punishments were put upon the strikers. although the strikers were courageous, the monopolies were strong and powerfull as well. they did all kinds of things to punish and limit the power of the labor unions, such as making their workers to sign the Yellow Dog Contrast, hiring scabs while their workers are on strikes, and putting their workers on blacklist if they striked. as a result, the public support toward the labor unions dropped as the failure of one protest. the Knites of Labors fall apart due to the failure of Haymarket Square...
