Training Your Horse Teaching your horse new things is more rewarding than buying your horse already taught. You will most likely create a bond with your horse which will make riding a lot more enjoyable. When you know your horse you are ready for the “little surprises” the horse might throw your way, ultimately making you a better rider. You can correct horses and respond to their misbehaviors in the right way. Bottom line, when you have trained your horse you will feel a sense of accomplishment, you made this horse great and no one else can take credit. Training your horse, rather than, buying one already trained is better because it creates an unbreakable bond and gives you and great sense of pride. Training your horse creates a bond between the horse and yourself. You have taken the time to train the horse so it knows you and you know it. You know your horses’ quirks and what it responds to which makes riding it more enjoyable. In other words you, “get each other”. Teaching your horse makes you more comfortable on it because you have taken the time to train it and get to know it. I rescued one of my horses, Cooper, from starvation and I eventually trained him how to jump and took him to a couple of shows. The bond Cooper and I developed runs deeper than anything you could buy, we spent many hours together get his training down and because of it were very close. Training creates an unbreakable bond between horse and rider; if you have spent this much time on your horse you care about it. Training your horse gives you riding experience that you cannot get anywhere else. Be prepared, this horse will test your limits, and you will get mad at each other, but you will become a better rider because of it. Also, now you know how to respond when the horse you’re riding throws a tantrum, or refuses a jump.
