Transferable skills are the general abilities you develop that are useful across a range of different jobs and industries. They might be role-related, technical or general.
All people have different sets of transferable skills. My personal skills set include a team work. I have demonstrated this skill working in my first job in the farm, where I worked in the small group of four people. I had to communicate with my team members not only in verbal language, but also, in sign language as not everyone could speak in English. It has improved and strengthened my communication skills. I keep demonstrating team work skills as well as communication skills as I am currently working as a warehouse associate in much bigger multi-cultural team. On daily basis I have to give information or training to my colleagues, or use written communication skills as sometimes I need to fill work related papers. While working in a current job role I improved my other skill – evaluation. My job role requires me to evaluate my colleagues work and provide a written feedback of their job on daily basis. Moreover, working in a quality assurance department and checking stock improved my problem solving skills. As I have to check the stock and verify that it is accurate. If problems occur I have to fix them using a specific computer programmes. It improved and strengthened my IT skills as well. Time keeping is a skill I learnt to manage very well while working in a current job as I have to make sure I come back from breaks, solve problems and do my tasks on time, as it affects business and customers. Moreover, working in the busy environment, especially during the peak time, taught me to work under pressure and cope with a stress. Flexibility is another skill I use at work as at the times I have to manage to do different tasks on short notice or use multitasking skill and manage a few tasks on the same time.
