Under Paid Police Officers
All the time I see on the news how a police officer has been shot, or how the police officer has been in a gunfight with a criminal on the street. It’s frightening to see every day officers of the law risk their lives to keep the criminals off the street and to keep us safe. I have family and friends that are police officers and oftentimes they have to find secondary work because of the poor pay they have as officers. I believe police officers should be paid more because of the hours they have to work on the holidays, the criminals they have to encounter, and because there would be less corruption in police departments.
Everyday police officers risk their life to go by trying to protect ours. But, do you ever wonder when you’re making your holiday travels if the police officers get to spend time with their family? Well, most police officers are out working on the holidays so that you can spend yours with family. I have many friends and family members who serve the police force and have missed countless holiday gatherings because of the hours they have to work. Once in a blue moon they are able to show up because the holiday fell on an off day of theirs. As Jerry Pierson, president of the Assn. of Orange County Deputy Sheriffs said, “I don't know many officers who say this is a very happy time. They want to be home with their families, but instead they are out here refereeing fights. It's not just something you can dispose of when you go home." (Ko) For many police departments the holiday season is usually when they get the most work because of family fights and many domestic battles occur. Also, many robbers happen during this holiday season. Just about every other job lets their employees off for the holidays, but police officers are working extremely hard during this time of the year. A solution to this overwhelming problem would to be offer bonuses to the officers...
