Running head: CASE STUDY PAPER Case Study Paper Jill Winn Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing Case Study Paper In today’s society, people are gaining medical knowledge at breathtaking rates. Treatments, cures, and vaccines for various disease and disorders are being developed constantly. Through all we have learned myocardial problems still remain a prevalent issue for a majority of healthcare patients. Throughout my clinical time this semester I have seen many patients with a variety of diagnoses. Choosing one of these patients to research and develop a case study was an easy choice. Cardiac is not an area I feel knowledgeable in. Therefore, I decided to utilize this paper to research something unfamiliar to me and research the diagnosis from my patient who was in the Cardiovascular Unit (CVU). E.M. is a 57 year old female who came to the Emergency Room (ER) on September 19, 2008. She came in with complaints of “chest pain” that radiated “down her left arm and up into the left side of the neck”. She stated the pain was “a pressure”. She also complained of “tingling to the left hand”. Electrocardiogram (ECG) results revealed sinus bradycardia with no abnormal enzyme levels. Her history revealed a pulmonary embolism in August of 2008. It was secondary to a decrease in her physical activity which she attributed to knee replacement surgery. The knee surgery was performed in January of 2008. Assessment of further history revealed hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, diabetes type II, and morbid obesity. At the time of admission she was 5’3” and weighed 293 pounds. After being admitted with unstable angina she was encouraged to have a Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI). E.M is divorced and lives alone in an apartment. She is unemployed and living on disability. She cannot work due to the constant pain from arthritis. She has a close relationship with her daughter and a sister. She rates her state of overall health as poor. Angina Pathophysiology Angina...
