Research Proposal: Vaccines
Introduction
The research topic I have chosen for my research proposalis the administration of childhood vaccines. Are there side effects, are they required by law, and are they still as effective as they once were? Childhood vaccines are common throughout the United States. They are thought to be a requirement to enter school by many Americans. The question isare some outdated, or can they cause serious unwanted side effects? I chose this topic because there is some controversy with vaccines and that they may cause side effects or conditions such as autism. Also, I am the mother of a nine year old boy who did have all of his childhood immunizations. At the time I was not aware thatthere was really any other choice. If I ever decide to have more children I would like to be more informed about vaccinations. I want to investigate their ingredients, side effects, what specific diseases each one treats, and are they necessary to our country as a whole to prevent communicable diseases. Also, how are we and our children affected as individuals if we choose to opt out of getting vaccinated?
When considering getting your child vaccinated, there are many options one has with how to proceed that they maynot aware of. Such as, should they get all the shots together as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)? Should you delay or skip some vaccines all together? Are vaccines really “required” by law for your child to enter school? There are twelve separate vaccines included in the routine childhood immunization schedule. So you need to look at the potential risks and side effects of each one separately. Also, some diseases are more common or deadly than others, so some vaccines may be considered less important than others.
In my preliminary research I have found that currently only twenty states allow parents to decline some or all vaccines on the basis of personal beliefs. Twenty eight other states allow...
