Learning is a constant for individuals and organizations. We all must continually learn new things or face obsolescence. A major challenge for managers is to create an environment of shared knowledge and values that will support their employees’ ability to learn. Employees' work effectiveness is perceived as a direct role of the quality of the systems that managers create (Hackman & Wageman, 1995). Fostering a learning environment for an organization, managers should build a commitment to learning and work to generate and generalize ideas with impact. Managers who follow the quality management viewpoint are committed to quality improvement, training, and customer satisfaction (Kinicki & Williams, 2016). Dr. W. Edwards Deming is deemed to be the father of quality evolution (skymark, 2015). His renowned "14 Points" serve as the quality management viewpoint's bylaws.
Quality Management Viewpoint
The Quality Management viewpoint can be used to establish a successful organization. Kinicki & Williams (2016) define quality as one of the most important ways of adding value to products and services. Quality management focuses on building concepts of quality throughout the organization that will generate quality products and services to customers. An important foundation of quality management is that the costs of poor quality are far greater than the costs of creating processes that produce high-quality products and services (Hackman & Wageman, 1995).
Kinicki & Wiliams (2016) offers four vital components of quality management:
1. Make continuous improvement a priority. By improving everything a little bit of the time all the time, the company can achieve long-term quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
2. Get every employee involved. To build teamwork, trust, and mutual respect, companies must make sure that every employee is involved in the continuous improvement process.
