Why do youths of our society today commit violent acts? Why do they engage in wired activities today? Since we were not taught anti social violent acts in our educational institutions, from where, comes the diverse acts of violence we hear about on regular basis? These are some of the questions driving this study. Researches and studies that have attempted in answering these questions do focus on the effects of alcohol, drugs, and family problems. However, research works in the past 30 years have clearly indicated that environmental (heat and humidity), sports, pornography and obscenities also contribute to youth violence. Little do we know how much this bothers on the growing impact of media violence as a greater area of concern.
Today’s youth are constantly surrounded by significant acts of violence on TV, in movies, and in video games. Many experts in education and psychology believe children are acting out what they see. The acts can easily be reacted due to constant exposure. For many children, TV and video games have become their primary teacher. Unless parents and teachers take the time and responsibility to teach children respectful values, they will learn problem solving, coping skills and conflict resolution from video role models.
