War in Sudan Speech

The war in northern Uganda has been called the most neglected humanitarian emergency in the world today As a volunteer and activist I have done a lot of work to bring to the attention of people of the war in Sudan and the terror the refugees in Uganda still face. This 15 year old war is responsible for the displacement and death of millions of people in Africa and should be a cause for concern world wide, not in just Africa. In my speech I will explain to you the cause of this war, who the victims of this civil war are, and what the current situation is.
The LRA has now changed from a rebel movement operating in the name of religion to a cult like group who is now in search of power. According to (worldvision.org) more than 1.8 million people — or 80 percent of the population in northern Uganda — were forced to flee their homes and instead live in displacement camp. The LRA rebels say they are fighting for the establishment of a government based on the biblical Ten Commandments however their actions speak louder than words. The LRA has become most famous for their destruction of towns throughout Sudan and focusing on Northern Uganda and the town of Acholi whom they claimed to be fighting for in the first place. While their bombings, shootings, and tortures have made them fearsome enough, it is not who they kill but who they keep alive that is the most horrifying.
The LRA claims many victims in towns and villages but their focus is on kids. The LRA has taken to abducting children into its army in order to make up for its lack of support and members due to their violence. According to Gary Smith or (americamagazine.org) and estimated 80-90% of the soldiers were abducted as children and an estimated 30,000 to 66,000 children have been kidnapped over the course of war. The ideal age for these child “recruits” is anywhere between 5-12 because these children are just old enough to carry a gun yet young enough to be forced into submission are easily terrorized...
