We Will Still Drink

Well I am 21, but since I am stuck in a combat zone I can’t drink, so I still don’t really know what its like to a “adult” just cause I can legally drink now. My 21st birthday was the weekend before we got shipped out to Afghanistan, and well I am not going to lie I had a blast, for the first time I could go out drinking and did not have to worry about getting in trouble for having a beer in my hand.
I grew up in South Africa and I grew up with alcohol as just a part of life, I was so surprised when I moved to the States and suddenly alcohol is bad. And it’s the same way in most parts of the world alcohol is just part of life and really no other countries seems to have so much problems. The United States is one of the only countries in the world that has a drink age of 21 and a couple of other countries that is under US influences, except for some provinces in India its 25, and then some middle eastern countries its completely illegal but they use opium and heroine instead. And that’s another problem when there is so much control over alcohol, is that it opens doors to drugs, this is just what I think from personal experiences of going trough Intermediate and high school, and it was easier to get hold of drugs and that includes pills, plants even crystals then to get a case of beer. But once I got up in college and alcohol wasn’t a problem to get, it just seems to me that there was a lot less drugs involved.
But drinking does involve a learning curve and you usually pick it up pretty quickly, the first time I drank it was a disaster, learned something the next day, but after 3 or 4 times I realized that drinking a little bit to much can ruin all the fun real quickly, and whether you are 21 or 18 you soon you learn how to drink fun and safely. There is a lot of responsibility that comes with drinking but with the current laws I intrepid it as saying I am responsible enough to play with grenade’s in my hands, but not to hold a beer.
