I happen to be pro capital punishment. However, I think it should be humane and only for the most severe of crimes. I think capital punishment should be solely for those criminals who have no regard for the lives of others. I believe that true killers of any kind deserve the death penalty. True killers would be those who kill for the soul purpose of thrill or revenge. Anyone who kills an innocent child by beating, stabbing, etc… I do not believe one who kills accidentally deserves the death penalty. They have shown severe negligence in most circumstances but I believe long-term sentences and one thinking about the crime he or she has committed is enough punishment in a manslaughter or accidental death case.
“Florida’s death chamber is about to reopen. The Department of Corrections has issued a new set of protocols for lethal injection that it believes will prevent any more botched executions. That’s wishful thinking” (St. Petersburg Times, FL: May 14, 2007. p.12.A). This statement demonstrates subjectivism. Although it is factual that a botched execution occurred, it is someone’s strong belief that the fact that this will not happen again is wishful thinking. This person believes in his or her heart of hearts for this to be true because of the fact that this has happened in the past numerous times. This is an opinion, but an opinion based on facts that would form this opinion.
“The commission urged the department to explore other “more recently developed” chemicals for use in executions and to reconsider the use of any paralytic drug to make executions “less problematic.” But the department decided to stick with the same badly flawed approach that has the potential to cause the inmate significant pain.” (St. Petersburg Times, FL: May 14, 2007. p.12.A).
This statement demonstrates value judgment. It is a value judgment that assigns ethical/moral values to an action and object. I would agree with this value judgment. If State laws are inhumane in the way...
