The Lunar Chronicles
Prompt- Make up a character (not in the book) to interact with either Cinder or Prince Kai. Write a brief scene in which your character meets and tries to warn one of these characters that they are in danger from the Lunars.
The palace was bright and cheery. The lights glittered in the water behind it. Fen approached the large front entrance, eager to join the festivities. This was the first time that she had ever been invited to a royal event. Fen wore a silver gown that shimmered in the moonlight. Her hair was braided back into a neat bun, which gave her a headache. She was very excited about the evening to come, despite the pain from her hair. Fen had been preparing for this moment since last month. Three people stood in front of her, blocking the view to inside. Two people. One. Just as she was about to step up, she realized something. How did she not think of this sooner? Queen Levana is here. She would know that Fen is Lunar. Why did she not think of this sooner? Fen tried to turn around, but the crowd behind her prevented her from going anywhere. She was next.
“Name, please?” the guard impatiently demanded.
“I don’t have all day, miss. Ah, I’ll just scan your ID chip.” the guard lifted her wrist to the scanner.
“Miss Yang Fen. You are on the guest list. Please, come in.”
Fen slowly stepped inside the palace gates. It was beautiful. The interior was glowing with excitement. Ten minutes passed, and Fen still went undetected. Thirty minutes. One hour. Queen Levana was too busy controlling her royal guards and keeping her glamour to pay attention to her, hopefully. The last guest walked into the door.
“Please welcome to the 126th Annual Ball of the Eastern Commonwealth, a personal guest of His Imperial Majesty: Linh Cinder of New Beijing.” Cinder wore a silver dress, similar to her own, that was soaked with water and mud. Her hair was in a tangled...
