What Do Louise, Eveline and Emily Have in Common?
The people that supposed to love and be there for them the same one who trapped them. Being trapped is not just a physical action. People can be also emotionally trapped. When a person is trapped emotionally, it can cause emotional distress to that person. That’s what Louise, Eveline and Emily all had in common; the men in their lives emotionally trapped them. Louise was trapped in her marriage by her husband and Eveline and Emily were trapped by their fathers’ behaviors, which caused different effects on each of them.
Louise was married in the time the women couldn’t get divorced, so divorce is not an option. At that time, women were married at young age and they have to stay in their marriage. When Louise heard the news that her husband was killed, she was happy to hear this news about what she thought was her husband death. Other women would be in grief, if they heard the news that their husbands had died. That is because she was with a man who did not show her any live or affection. She was feeling great to be spending her life by herself.
Eveline was trapped because she made a promise to her dying mother to take care of her father and brothers. She was also trapped by her father’s temper and violence. He started to threaten her but she stayed to take care of the house because of her mother’s promise even though she had the opportunity to leave this life and to run away but she chose to stay. There was a sailor, his name is Frank who wanted to take Eveline away from her family and wanted her to run away with her. She agreed to leave with him until she got to the port. Then she thought about what people would think of her leaving her family to be with a man. Eveline decided not to leave with Frank and to go back to take care of her violent father and her brothers.
Emily was also trapped by her father.
