Sports Physics Lab Due Monday November 3

Lab #3 – Frisbee Physics

Use diagrams or photographs whenever possible/necessary!!

Objective: To determine the forces acting on a Frisbee and the level to which they affect the motion of the Frisbee.

In this lab, you should determine:
What parameters are important to the path of the Frisbee toss? In other words, how can you make the Frisbee turn right, turn left, or go straight?
Try to analyze the physics of why and how it turns. Use force diagrams (Free-body diagrams) in your analysis.
Does the spin rate affect the motion?
How does the distance and turning depend on the direction of the wind?
Why does the Frisbee sometimes appear to ‘bounce’ up and down?
How far can you throw a Frisbee? Is it further than you can throw a baseball?
Anything else about a Frisbee that you notice or can discuss?
For this lab, you should carefully observe the motion of the Frisbee, and try to explain the behavior based on the physics that we’ve discussed in this class.
