{text:bookmark-start} {text:bookmark-end} Why I Chose To Get My MBA The purpose of this paper is to construct and support and argument on why I decided to pursue my MBA. My argument will be based the aspects that lead me to get my MBA. I will also discuss my results from the “Jungian 16 '' Type Personality Test” and if any benefit from obtaining an MBA. The topic of whether or not an MBA can lead to personal and financial gains will also be discussed. I was the first person in my family to attend college and graduate with a bachelor’s degree. It was something I always wanted to do since I was in middle school. After graduating from college from Sam Houston State University in 1998 I began my career as a homebuilder in the Houston area. I was promoted within a year and began running one of Houston’s largest master planned communities. I felt like I was truly successful at this point and never even considered going after an MBA degree. That all changed in 2007 when the housing market began to fall apart and sales began to decline. I was laid off in June of 2007 and soon realized that I needed more than a bachelor’s degree to make myself stand out among all the other people looking for new jobs. It took me the last year and a half working places I did not want to work and getting laid off again to get me to realize that it was time to get my MBA. In January of 2009 I enrolled at the University of Phoenix in the MBA program. I chose the University of Phoenix because of the flexibility they offered with classes but the main reason I chose them was because of the professors. The professors are working professionals with real workplace knowledge and the classes are taught in an atmosphere where everyone wants to learn. Should an MBA be a prerequisite to senior management? Henry Mintzberg stated in his book that he was against the idea of an MBA as a prerequisite for senior management (Mintzberg, 2004 Berrett-Koehler). I agree with Mintzberg’s theory that it should...
