Why I write
In The Dolphin Reader there are two essays titled “Why I Write” written by Joan Didion and George Orwell. When I write I think about what I want to talk about. If it’s a topic given to me I think about what I could talk about how I could connect with the topic. When writing an essay I have to know whom my audience is going to be. After, I can start writing my essay starting with the body paragraph first then the introduction and conclusion last. As I start with my body paragraphs it makes it easier to write the essay other that stressing out about the introduction which is more time consuming for me. As I write my body paragraphs I use lots of supporting details and examples. As a writer my essays could use improvement such as with the organization of my essay and better grammar. With better organization and better grammar my essays could be strong. As high school went by I learned a lot about writing essay and different ways to organize them and different strategies to write. I’ve gained skills throughout high school and college. My writing process compared to Orwell and Didion are similar in only a couple ways.
As I start to write I think of whom my audience is going to be. Then I start to ask myself some questions, “what are my readers going to want to know?” and I start to get ideas of what to write. Now that I’m in college, my audience is usually a teacher or a professor. When Orwell and Didion write their audience is more the public so they decide to reflect on a broader topic. They like to talk about a topic that can relate to majority of the people in the United States and not only to one person or group. So their topics are generally more interesting and relates to many people. As many essays that I write are to inform my audience about a topic and to interest them. When I‘m writing I want the audience to understand and connect to what the topics is. Orwell makes a strong connection with his audience with the way he tells his stories. His...
