“New words and images: Women’s creativity as feminist practice”
By EstelleB. Freedman

I agree that the women’s “capacity and suppressing them as a speaker” led to many issues. This is brought up in many articles that a women’s voice is not heard. In “New words and images: Women’s creativity as feminist practice” Estelle B. Freedman tells her readers about women in China who were told to stay quiet at all times. When these women did get the chance to speak they were shut down quite instantly. This obviously brings a woman’s confidence down and makes them feel there is no need for them. Another point that was discussed was gender language. The English language referred the man as the “human” and the women as “other.” No surprises there. This immediately indicated that the women are invisible. As I was growing I also wondered why a lot of words were referred as “man”. I was not old enough to understand why it happened I just knew it did not make sense. After reading this article it just goes back to that time. I can’t believe that women are even oppressed through language. Almost seems surreal but it happens. Once again women have had to fight for another right, please include us in our language. Thanks. Eventually they started using mail courier, police officer and flight attendant, instead of police man, mail man and stewardess. I sometimes wonder why we just could not have it be police woman, mail woman and flight woman. We can not because men are superior they are existent and we are the little side kicks. If we are not seen and were not even interpreted into our language, than that just shows to what extent we fight our rights till. Pure evil.
