Could you imagine being so hungry that you can see every little detail of your bones? What if you didn't have enough energy talk, or even walk? What is meant by hunger? Most people may think it’s the lack of food someone may receive or not eating for several hours. You may think you appreciate the food you are given daily but you are not. The word hunger originated in the middle Ages from the old English word “hungrig”; used by peasants to gain food. When thinking of the word hunger, thousands of conations may jump to your mind- one being ravenous, famished, starved, malnourished, cruelty, lost hope and craving. World hunger is a global scale, affecting 852 million people across the world from the estimated 7.1 billion people. One third of all food produced (1.3 billion tons) is never consumed. This food wastage represents a missed opportunity to improve global food security in a world where one in 8 is hungry. You sometimes feel as hungry as wolf, but how do the hungry feel?
A hungry man can't see right or wrong. He just sees food. Think of the poor, petite and paltry children, hurting over a stream flowing with tear and despair. Children are the most visible victims of under nutrition. An estimated 146 million children in developing countries are underweight - the result of acute or chronic hunger. Poor nutrition plays a role in at least half of the 10.9 million child deaths each year--five million deaths. Under nutrition magnifies the effect of every disease, including measles and malaria. Imagine if you were one of them children, suffering each day, just to get a tiny scrap of food. Think about the children, looking up at the bright blue sky, praying to God, wishing for a scrap of food. They thank God for life, but what are we doing? We do not appreciate the food given, we do not appreciate the life we are given and we certainly do not appreciate the family we are given.
