Ethnicity
Ethnicity in psychology is known as Ethno psychology. This is a branch of psychology that combines the methods of this science with cultural anthropology to study the collective psychological characteristics of human groups and societies (Enciclonet.com).
Within ethnic groups there is more variability and hodgepodge of there within breeds, because people can identify with more than one ethnicity (Moro, 1996). People also may intentionally modify their traits and ethnic identities to absorb other cultures. As cultures, ethnic groups are not eternal or immutable but fluid, malleable and perishable, unlike races. Because racial and ethnic minority groups, people occupy subordinate social positions in societies in which they live, they are socially isolated or segregated by the ` majority ‘, and thus acquire a normal or abnormal behavior (Moro, 1996). The situation is due to cultural or ethnic characteristics contribute to the creation of identity, specifies or different according to the will of the members of this community. In addition, minorities occupy subordinate social positions that are relegated to the worst jobs. This indicates that social class, race, ethnicity and gender categories are not mutually exclusive, but can reinforce each other (Moro, 1996).
Race and ethnicity are often cause tensions due to feelings of prejudice. This refers to rigid and irrational about an entire category of people involves generalizations and have a pre disposition to judge other people. The bias varies in intensity as they are rooted in the culture of a society and varies from mild dislike hostility beliefs.
