Year- round schooling would be beneficial for multiple reasons. One of these reasons is that a year-round system would prevent students from forgetting key information over the long summer break. The national summer earning association often sites decades of research that supports the claim that students do forget what they learned when too much time off is given (Lynch). If year-round schooling was adopted, teachers would no longer have to hassle with re-teaching information in the beginning of the year. In fact, year round schools have lower staff turnover rates, and teacher who work for year-round schools say that they enjoy the way the calendar is set up, because it gives less time for students to forget information (Long). “this is a vital step toward readiness for success in college and careers for every student in this country” U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan (quoted in Achievement gap). Tests have shown that students that are enrolled in year-round school systems have a better attitude toward school and learning (Sardo-Brown). With today’s advancement in technology and it continuing to grow, we need schooling systems to advance in their way of schooling. The time off for schools during summer months were not implemented to accommodate contemporary concerns like children’s needing down time it was so kids could help tend to the fields during harvesting season (Lynch). In other words, keeping the same 180-day calendar with two to three months off during summer is outdated. We as a society are now more technological than back in the 1800s, not many of us are waking up and going to harvest the latest wheat crop. Most of our society are waking up, putting on a suit and going into an office.
