It goes without saying, that there are proverbs about people’s attitude to the clothes in every language. It means that this subject has always been one of the most essential in different cultures. Let’s take Russian «По одежде встречают, по уму провожают» and English «Good clothes open all doors».
From ancient times the things people wore were not just clothes but a means of estimation. Ancient people used different accessories to show their social status. During Middle Ages people’s clothes demonstrated detailed information about his or her origin, occupation, family and social status.
Nobody can refuse the fact that nowadays it is common to judge people by the clothes they wear. Does not it mean that, in spite of the social progress, the way of thinking, estimating and perceiving the world of many people is still primitive?

I guess it is the way it is because of a number of stereotypes on the basis of which an image of a successful, modern person is created. The estimation of personal qualities is often reduced to: beautiful or not, well- or bad-dressed.
In my opinion, the way of judging people in Western and Oriental cultures differs greatly. Europeans and Americans in their daily life do not care...
