Young Death

“Four days! Just four more days! Can we go now?” I proclaimed. As the warm sun touched my fair skin, I danced to the beat of the autumn sounds. Mom and dad had just finished work and arrived home after a long hard day.
“Alright Ariana, calm down,” giggled mom. “Let’s go to the car".
I quickly sprinted towards the car, calling my brother along the way. It was finally time to go and get my birthday present, my very own kitten. We got in the car and drove for about fifteen minutes and arrived at the animal shelter, where immediately I jumped from the car.
Hastily we ventured into the shelter and approached the receptionist. The man gazed at me with his emotionless black eyes, than quickly turned to my parents. My mom told him about wanting to adopt a cat.
“So, you are looking for a cat, eh little girl?” the man asked.
“Yes,” I smiled sweetly. “They said they would buy me a cat for my birthday”.
“Well then, happy birthday, you’re one lucky girl,” said the man. “Come with me”.
I instantly began peering into the cages, looking at the blazing eyes staring back at me. As I moved my way down the row I caught a glimpse of a tiny kitten sticking its little paws through the cage. It began to mew, and as I touched its paw it flipped onto its back and began to purr.
“I want this one,” I said merrily. “This is my cat”.
The man took the soft, sandy cat out of her captive domain and handed her to me. The whole car ride home I hugged my cat and pondered names for my new friend.
When we arrived home I spent the next couple hours, before it was time for bed, playing and spending time with her. Before saying goodnight, I finally decided on a name for her: Pieowakket.
Over the next couple days I spent every waking moment with Pieowakket. I loved her more than everything I owned. Each night she would curl up in my lap and lie there for hours as I watched a movie with my mom. Pieowakket meant the world to me....
