What is advertising?

How does it feel to find your favorite bread being the ‘bread of the month’ at your favorite joint ? Or to see your favorite store filled with new seasonal collection or perhaps running discounts? Or to get a call that you won some sweepstakes? The very thought of an IPL cricket match ticket, being readily available at a neighborhood bank caught everybody’s attention last month, similarly the launch of a much awaited gizmo is another top story! A lot of these advertisements and campaigns bring your senses to life at least once in a day. It is unimportant whether or not one really needs the product, but what remains to be seen is how the advertisement catches one's fancy and how the endorsed product/ brand seeps into the wish list of an average man. The entire concept of branding or selling a product, commodity, thought, service, brand or idea and making the commoner cognizant of arising needs by the hour is summarised by the term "advertising". Advertising not only creates cognizance of needs, but it also educates the masses by way of spreading awareness regarding socially ethical issues.

The do's and don't of any organization across any trade can be as elaborate as desired. From an Ad Agency's perspective, a few of the important Do's and Don'ts ‐ Advertising is all about selling and making the commoner understand the pros of an idea, product, commodity, thought, service or brand. And while the term selling comes into reference, it's got to be equally attractive and lucrative for the commoner to correlate to.
