Salbutamol(Albuterol)1 puff BID | Bronchodilator, sympathomimetic | * Symthetic sympathomimetic amine and moderately selective beta2-adrenergic agonist with comparatively long action. Acts more prominently on beta2 receptors (particularly smooth muscles of bronchi, uterus, and vascular supply to skeletal muscles) than on beta1 (heart) receptors. Minimal effect on alpha-adrenergic receptors. Inhibits histamine release by mast cells. | * To relieve bronchospasm associated with acute or chronic asthma, bronchitis, or other reversible obstructive airway diseases. | * Known sensitivity to Salbutamol and/or propellant mixture. * Concurrent use of blocking agents. | * Peripheral vasodilation with a reflex tachychardia. * Irritability, tremors, hyperactivity. * Gastrointestinal disturbance (nausea and vomiting). * Paradoxical bronchospasm. * Paradoxical hypoxemia. * Hypokalemia. | * Consider not administering Salbutamol when heart rate is >180/minute. * Under special circumstances the dose may be increased up to 0.5 mg/kg/dose. Titrate dose against clinical response and side effects. Discuss with specialist. * Transient hypoxemia may occur during the administration of nebulized Salbutamol and therefore it should be administered with oxygen. Watch for signs of hypoxemia after delivery for up to 30 minutes. |
