Some people eat to live, but most people live to eat. I eat to live, but I seriously enjoy eating all of the time. I’m the most gluttonous person I’ve ever met – okay maybe not, but I do eat a lot. I rarely ever leave my plate with left over food, because I know that what I didn’t eat goes into the trash. I can’t stand the thought of most Americans being wasteful when there are starving people all over the world in areas such as Haiti and Russia and Africa. The only time I do not finish my food is when my stomach won’t let me eat anymore without vomiting. Even at restaurants I’m not wasteful. I’ll take my left overs to go and eat them remaining food later. According to one of my teachers, it is not necessary to "clean your plate," or eat everything on it. It is also consider impolite as well as unsanitary to take someone else's plate when they are finished and eat what is left, so I never take food off of anyone’s plate unless the person is my mom or a best friend. Americans have a problem with serving portions, which causes obesity problems that we still have today in America. It's in our culture to be wasteful. Whatever we don't eat, we throw it out. It is unusual for someone to attempt to finish what someone else didn't eat in a public place - it's something that is expected of homeless people in America, someone who cannot afford their own meal. The only reason anyone would sample food off of someone’s plate is to understand how it tastes if he or she has never tasted it before, or would want to order the meal right then, or in the future. Having good etiquette is important when going out to eat in public with anyone you are with. If one did something that were out of line, they would be embarrassed, as well as the person that they are dining with.
