The great Epic of Gilgamesh and the Genesis are both undeniably a literary works which exhibits exemplary beauty and cleverness. These accounts depict the outburst of literature, which indeed started during the ancient times. It so happened that these two separate accounts have the same element despite of their uniqueness. The two superb writings have this account of flood. Posturing similarities have been observed in the two written accounts but surprising significant dissimilarities has been noted also. One of the resemblances of the flood in the Epic of Gilgamesh and Genesis is that the flood happened both in the Mesopotamian plain. And we can claim it reasonable because the writers of both accounts has been living in the Middle East, since Hebrews and Sumerians are living in the Middle East, so the setting of the story most probably might be confined in their place alone. Another similarity is that the main characters in the flood in both accounts are being cautioned that a deluge is forthcoming, Utnapishtim in Gilgamesh is warned by Ea while God warned Noah in the Genesis. Making a boat is the only way to escape a flood for survival during the ancients, we can’t expect that they would build an airplane of course, neither the Sumerians nor the Hebrews don’t know about high technology yet but a vessel. The boat serves as the medium of survival in both account and this is one of their similarities. The main characters in the two literary works also told to save himself and his family and a sampling of animals. Humans are not only the ones to be affected if a massive flood would happen, saving a pair of animals would be necessary for reproduction of the specie. Both the boat of Utnapishtim and Noah are sealed with tar, you can’t expect them to be sealing their vessel with a rugby or tape, tar during the ancient times is the only available natural...
