Kathaleen Willis November 04, 2008 Nudity in Advertisements Of the three ads I reviewed, one is titled “Double Exposure”; which depicts a younger blonde, clad in just a towel and bath slippers, with a surprised or shocked look about her. At first glance, it seems as if the woman featured is startled by the presence of eyes upon her, however, a mirror that is positioned almost directly behind her gives a clear view of her gluteus muscles. The overall impression of this ad suggests that a curious gaze from a gentleman can not only be unwelcomed, as it is alarming. An ad such as this could have men wanting to see more of what’s under the wrapper or more or less, what’s under the towel, because its overwhelming ability to invoke curiosity. The McDonalds Corporation is widespread across this America and in many other nations also, therefore if there is simplicity in ordering fries, there simply must be an even easier way of obtaining a beautiful woman. Another important part incorporated in this image, is that she is laid out on a platter, almost as though she’s on some sort of pedestal. There is an insinuation that the woman is of higher quality and standards, heavenly in nature and uneasily obtained. Therefore, this image plays on the idea of what men lust after. The featured woman is a craving, she’s delectable and refined. The use of nudity, manipulation of the female body, or even sex in advertising can be highly overt or extremely subtle; from relatively explicit displays of sexual acts, down to the use of basic cosmetics to enhance attractive features.
