A Painful Moment
On June 24, 1998, I was suppose to spend the week with my father; instead, I went to Louisville, Kentucky with my next door neighbor Jenna on vacation. She was going to visit her family in Kentucky and asked if I would like to go. I went with her because I had never been to Kentucky. We were supposed to be gone for a week. If I had only known that what was going to happen next would change my life forever; of course, I wouldn’t have gone.
We stayed with Jenna’s aunt and uncle for two nights. They took us all over Louisville and took us to Georgetown. I had so much fun at Georgetown. On the second night they took us to a rodeo. I had been to some before in Georgia but nothing like the one they had taken us to. It was so big and they had so many horses and bulls. It seemed like everyone in the town was there.
When we left her aunt and uncle’s house, we went and stayed with her grandparents. They were so sweet. Her grandmother would cook the best breakfast, lunch, and dinner. She would make the best biscuits for breakfast. Her grandparents took us to Schimpff’s Confectionery in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Schimpff’s Confectionery is a candy store, where they make the candy in front of you. They had the best chocolate and old time hard candy. Her grandparents also took us to famous restaurants in Jeffersonville.
On June 30, 1998, we were supposed to go to the Louisville Slugger Museum in Louisville, Kentucky. This would be the day that changed my life forever. Jenna’s grandparents got a call early that morning from Jenna’s parents telling them that we had to come back a day early. They wouldn’t tell us why we had to go home a day early. So, we got our stuff together and went to the airport. When we landed in Atlanta, Georgia my mom was not there to pick me up. I thought that it was weird that she didn’t come to pick me up.
