A Penang Boy

My name is Evin and I was born and raised in an island called Penang. It is a state located on the northwest coast of peninsular Malaysia and is one of the most developed and economically important states of Malaysia. Penang, has the third highest Human Development Index in Malaysia and is a thriving tourist destination spot due to its population. A population which is highly diverse in ethnicity and culture as well as its well known local delicacies. I'm blessed with a balanced lifestyle between a busy city life and a slower paced country life, growing up in Penang.

There are many parts of the city which is still well conserved with its historical backgrounds and some are quite well developed. There are also plenty of recreational areas such as natural landscapes and parks to relax and enjoy in Penang. The British settlements before our independence, played a part in the English influence and had many of us like myself, grow up in an English speaking community. Hence, English is my main language of conversing. The main transportation in the city are cars and motorcycles. Thus, it is no surprise that traffics are bad during peak hours. Travelling around the island is definitely worth every moment of your time because of its heritage, attractions, activities, night life, art and culture. If you ever stop by Penang, the thing you must never miss to explore is the heritage buildings located in the heart of the city, Georgetown. You could take a walk along Bangkok lane to see the architecture of houses built in the 1920's.

If you would like, you could leave a prayer in the different religion worship places found in the Street of Harmony. A stroll around Georgetown's heritage streets such as Lebuh Armenian, Love Lane and Lebuh Muntri to admire hand drawn murals, can also be a great way to spend the day.
