From music and movies to e-Books and e-Mail, our lives are dependent upon this once non-existent tool. iTunes, YouTube, MySpace, Facebook, Google, Yahoo, MSN, and billions of others are frequented daily. Sure we all have some idea about the internet and how to use it, but do we all realize just how much the internet is used in simple tasks? Take a trip to your library, grocery store, financial institution, fueling station, fast-food restaurant, auto-parts retailer, electronics retailer, automobile dealer, etc. and you will in some way be using the internet. Metamorphosis has taken place on the internet more than once and some may not remember what it was in the beginning. It had a purpose similar to its use today, but on a much smaller scale and not for the general public. Today you can be in Sacramento, California and have an internet based conference with people all over the world and see all participants as though you were in a centralized location, or send a letter in a few moments instead of days without ever putting pen to paper. Need a job, or want a better one? Just get to a computer with internet access and you can give the ability to view your credentials to a large number of employers world-wide. The internet has a vast abundance of electronic resources at your fingertips at a moment’s notice, however just because what you are about to download appears to be an image of your research topic, or a free program to help your computer run better, doesn’t guarantee that it is what it says or even that it is safe.
