A Rise In The U.S.
Would American’s lives be the same without having telephones, light, transportation, or labor laws? That’s what Americans would be missing in life without having the Industrial Revolution occurring in history. The Industrial Revolution was a time of changes from working at home to working in factories with machines and engines. There were new inventions, upgrades in machinery, railroads, steamships, and oil booms. The lives of Americans were changed during this time period from 17th century. The Industrial Revolution shaped the U.S. into what it was today. The benefits of the Industrial Revolution definitely outweighed the disadvantages because of the improving economy, new inventions that helped Americans, and improving work in urban areas for Americans.
The improving economy was one benefit of the Industrial Revolution. For instance, this shows that railroads from the industrial revolution helped the economy, “By 1890, railroad companies had built 165,300 miles of track and employed 36,000 people. They allowed a national economy to develop by enabling products to be transported swiftly anywhere in the country” (Ross 50). The railroad improved the economy because it put many people to work giving them money and Americans with money means more products being sold. Products being transported quicker meant that the prices of them dropped so Americans could now buy even more of the products in America keeping the economy in good shape. Another example, this shows the Erie Canal from the industrial revolution helped the U.S.A.’s economy, “The creation of the Erie Canal created a route from the Atlantic Ocean to the Great Lakes thereby helping stimulate the economy of New York and making New York City a great trading center” (Kelly 2). This improved the economy because imported goods from Canada could now be sold to the U.S. and the U.S. could now sell to Canada a lot easier.
