From the experiences of the individuals, Manchester England, during the nineteenth century, after its industrialization had many issues and can be seen by how the situation was reacted to. Issues that occurred in Manchester during this time period were the horrid living and working conditions and also the wealth situation. The different takes that the industrialization had on people can be seen through the eyes of the intellectuals and their writings. Entrepreneurs and the upper class saw these changes as good and a way to bring money into their own pockets. Many of the medical professionals during this time also saw the effect that the industrialization had on the lives of the citizens in Manchester. While the industrial revolution had a positive affect on Manchester making it a leading textile manufacturing center it also created several issues during the course of the nineteenth century.
Many intellectuals that visited Manchester during the nineteenth century wrote about the situations that they encountered. In an account of her journey on the Manchester Railway, Frances Anne Kemble talks about the scene that unfolded around her where the lower classes we protesting about the Corn Laws and how the representative man, of the people, was protesting against the machinery that was making the upper class men wealthy. As an actress, poet and dramatist, Kemble is able to see and understand the upsetting situations the lower classes are in, the fact that she is also a woman and it is her first time going to Manchester makes the situation stand out in her mind when she says, “groans and hisses greeted the carriage, full of influential personages, in which the Prime Minister sat” (Kemble 3). As a woman she does not have all the rights as a man, so she too would have a discontent feeling towards the prime minister (Document 4).
