I Own a Gun

I own a gun. It is a 270 Mossberg bolt action rifle. My brother bought it for me for Christmas in 2010. He overheard me saying that year that I wanted to try deer hunting. Even though I still have not hunted, I have taken the high-powered rifle out for target practice and enjoy shooting it. It is a nice rifle that is plenty powerful enough and accurate up to 200 yards. You might expect a gun owner like me to be pro-gun. However, you would be wrong, I do believe in the Second Amendment right to bear arms but we can try harder to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people.
On January 8, 2011, U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords and eighteen other people were shot during a public meeting held in a supermarket parking lot in Casas Adobes, near Tucson, Arizona. Six of those shot died including Arizona District Court Chief Judge John Roll, one of Representative Gifford’s' staffers, and a nine-year-old child, Christina-Taylor Green. Giffords was holding a constituent meeting called "Congress on Your Corner" in the parking lot of a Safeway store when Jared Lee Loughner drew a pistol and shot her in the head and began firing on other people. News reports identified the target of the attack as Giffords, a Democrat representing Arizona's 8th Congressional District. She was shot through the head at point-blank range and her medical condition was initially described as "critical" (Wikipedia). Jared Lee Loughner had a Glock 19 pistol and two high capacity 33-round magazines that were bought legally.
On Friday, July 20, 2012, a mass shooting occurred at a Century movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, during a midnight screening of the film “The Dark Knight Rises.” A gunman dressed in tactical clothing set off tear gas grenades and shot into the audience with multiple firearms, killing 12 people and injuring 58 others.
