“The earth has a fever, and the fever is growing… we are what’s wrong, and we must make it better.” In the context of the global warming, discuss the extent to which you agree with this statement.

The average global temperatures are increasing. In the past the temperatures have fluctuated massively. However this is the first time that it has happened at such an incredibly fast and unsustainable rate. Gases such as carbon dioxide, methane, cfcs, water vapour etc, are all having negative effects by sitting in the upper atmosphere and trapping in heat and the suns radiation which has reflected off the earth and is attempting to return to space. In this essay I will be critically evaluating the extent to which global warming is our fault and how we can make a change.
Albedo is a measure of the reflectivity of a surface. The albedo effect when applied to the Earth is a measure of how much of the Sun's energy is reflected back into space. Overall, the Earth's albedo has a cooling effect. Using satellite measurements accumulated since the late 1970s, scientists estimate Earth's average albedo is about 0.30. However in a few years, there has been a significant projected impact on albedo is through future global warming. Nearly all the ice on the planet is melting, with an estimated over ninety five percentage of glaciers entering an annual retreat now. As the white surfaces decrease in area, less energy is reflected into space, and the Earth will warm up even more. There will be less reflective surfaces and larger water masses. Ice for example reflects the sun’s rays while water and the oceans absorb them which contribute to global warming. As the ocean surface is exposed to sunlight, the water warms up. This melts the ice from underneath, while man-made CO2 in the atmosphere warms the surface. Humidity also increases mainly because water vapour is a powerful greenhouse gas. More ice therefore melts, which exposes more water, which melts more ice from underneath,...
