I can still recall how dry my mouth felt and how fast my heart was beating. As soon as he answered his phone, I explained to him how I had reached my breaking point and I was not going to stick around any longer. His response included a lot of swearing, and that I was not going to leave the relationship alive. “Someone will die, and it will most likely be you”, was his last words. That night I could not sleep because I was afraid that he would come to my house and try to hurt me or my family. Every time that I heard a car pass by, I would quickly peek out the window in fear that it might be him. The next morning, I had my brother drive me to work. Since it was summer vacation, I had retained a part-time job because I was trying to save up for college in the fall. I tried to stay positive and like nothing had ever happened the night before. At about noon, he appeared at my job and said that he needed to talk to me. Fearing for my safety, I went into the bathroom and locked myself in, hoping that this nightmare would just go away. About five minutes go by and I hear a knock at the door. It was one of my co-workers telling me that my boyfriend was outside in the waiting room and that he needed to speak with me. As soon as I let her in, I began to cry and blurted out what had happened last night. I explained to her that he had said he was going to kill me and that I would not leave the bathroom until he gets into his car and drives off. My co-worker came back a few minutes later and informed me that he had left the building. I went back to the front desk and within seconds he returned and began walking towards me. By now my employer was well aware of the situation and actually restrained him and told him he needed to leave or he would call the police.
