Throughout the history of American, there have been some presidents that have left a legacy and some who have left a blemish. If one were to ask any teenage child if one knew about John F. Kennedy they will say yes. They may not know much except that he was a president that was assonated. If the same teenagers were asked about Lyndon B. Johnson they may not know much except he is associated with the Vietnam War. According to History Learning Site (2000-2013), “Hey! Hey! LBJ! How many kids did you kill today?” (para. 4) was the chant that demonstrator against the war would shout. This is an example of one blemish that would follow President Johnson throughout history. However, there are many things that both of these presidents are known for yet very likely to be overlooked
Part of John F. Kennedy’s accomplishments started while running for president. He was Roman Catholic, and part of his campaign was to prove that a Roman Catholic could be president and separate state from church. He would visit states that did not like his religion and win them over with his charm. John F. Kennedy also had another accomplishment while still campaigning for office. On September 26, 1960 Senator Kennedy and Vice President Richard Nixon had the first televised presidential debates. There were more than 70 million viewers watching this debate live, while others listened to it by radio. Those who listened by radio believed that Richard Nixon was the clear winner of the debate. The television viewers of the debate saw things very differently. John F. Kennedy is described as young and vibrant, whereas Vice President Nixon was pale and sickly.
