The importance of a Non Commissioned Officer of being a leader and an example for their soldiers to follow is because a Non Commissioned officer is a role model. Someone a soldier will look up to and expect advice from. When you have a unit that is full of outstanding Non Commissioned officer, the unit will always be able to meet or even exceed the standards. Non Commissioned Officers lead from the front and always act in a professional manner. When a Commissioned Officer gives an order to a Non Commissioned Officer, it is the NCO’s resposabilty to make sure that the soldiers execute the task at hand. With a great leader, that would be no problem. If you have a NCO that does not lead by example, that task will not get done in the proper way or not get done at all. A soldier who sees that his or her NCO doing the right thing at the right time will also mimic the NCO’s actions. If a soldier sees there NCO doing the wrong thing they will feel that, if my NCO dosent have to why should I. This can greatly affect the way the unit will operate. Missions can fail and even cause death within the unit. Why is it so important for a NCO to be an outstanding example for his or her soldiers? Well in my exprice of being a Non Commissied Officer, I had the ablitly to help soldiers and feel like I had a great impact on their life’s. Soldiers would come to me not because of the fact I was just another sargent, it was the fact that I was someone they looked up to, someone that would listen to them, and someone that lead by example. When a soldier sees that I was not doing the right thing, or showed up late for work, it would make them feel that I could not take care of their needs. It was my responseablity to insure that I set the example for the soliders to follow and to be a great role modle for the soldiers. It is also important for an NCO to be a great leader.
