Introduction
There are many different mental illnesses around the world these days. Some can be as small as feeling a little depressed form time to time while others can be so sever that the patient has multiple personalities. No one mental illness is worse than another; they all affect someone’s way of life. In order for a person with a mental illness to be able to live in the normal word, even if the are on medication, the person must learn to adjust with their surrounding and not let the illness consume them. Sometimes all it takes to save a persons life that has an illness is to talk to them. That’s what an officer did to a teenage male who wanted to kill himself, or maybe it would take a divorce from your loved one to make you see you need help.
Sean Fitzpatrick
Eleven years ago a seventeen-year-old kid named, Sean Fitzpatrick was a junior at a high school in Spokane, Washington. Sean had recently developed a mental illness called paranoid schizophrenia and starting hearing voices. One day Sean had enough of life and dealing with his depression that he formed a plan of suicide by cop. His plan was to bring a gun to school, barricade himself in a classroom, pretend he had hostages, and force the cops to do a job he could not do himself, kill him. In the mist of his plan an officer by the name of John Gately, decided that killing Sean was not the way to handle to situation. At one point during all the commotion Sean throw a paper airplane at the officers and at the moment officer Gately knew that there was still a little hope that they could bring Sean out without violence. Officer Gately had convinced Sean to sit with him and bullshit, and had sent all the other cops away from the area. AS Sean and Officer Gately were talking Sean raised his gun and pointed it at Officer Gately and at that moment the cops had opened fire on Sean....
