African Americans: My Race and My Community

Race and My Community Geraline James Axia College of University of Phoenix Race as it relates to my community is a very serious issue. There are members in my community that look the same as I and there are some that does not. Leaders within my community treat people of my culture with less respect than others. People that are white get the best treatment. Manuals at work do not contain information about African Americans or by African Americans. The local media represents African Americans to a certain extinct because there are a lot of highly educated African Americans in my community. There are some similarities and differences between people that are in leadership positions in my community. I would change the way African Americans were treated by some white folks in my community if I could resolve any inequities in my community. Work manuals that I have seen while I have been employed in my community do not have information just about African Americans. Every manual that I have seen says that there should be no discrimination based on race or sex. The manuals are written for all employees regardless of your race or sex. In some instances there are employers who do not follow the rules and still discriminate against African Americans and other races that are not white. For instance , they let the white Americans get all the good schedules, raises, and get not following company procedures. If I could resolve any inequities within my community it would be to change how some white Americans treat African Americans and other races that still face discrimination today. I know that this is something that cannot and will not happen overnight but it can be improved more over time. I would change the way African Americans and other races are being discriminated by white Americans because everyone deserves to be treated equally.
