ALISON'S COMEBACK AND JIMMY'S REACTION Many people appear to be strong, imperious, hard-hearted and agry but under the cover of an »iron person« there is a weak part that they try to hide. Jimmy is one of them. He has an interesting personality; he's whimsical and odd, even special in some way. He is well educated working-class guy whoselife is full of anger. He rages at people who come from the upper-class background, he is angry with his wife's parents who disdain is job as a candy shopkeeper and he insults also the ones he loves – his wife Alison and his friend Cliff. He is trying to give everyone the picture of a strong man with no feelings, but inside, he is a coward. He cannot even face the situations caused by his acts. I focused on the Alison's comeback which clearly shows us what kind of a person he is. When Jimmy's wife Alison comes back, Jimmy is dating her best friend Helena. He is aware of this fact so he doesn't feel as he could confront her, he sents Helena to do it for him. His behaviour shows us how different they are – Helena talks to Alison without hesitating and she apologizes for seducing her husband. Off course, Jimmy may be sorry for hurting her too but he can't look into her eyes because it would mean that she won »the game«. He does not want her to come back as a great victor, he wants her to come back crawling and begging him for taking him back. Alison is near to depression but she still has some hope because if she had not, she would not have returned. Although Alison did not come back to beg him literally he feels some kind of a satisfaction inside. She hummiliates herself with the returning to a place where she suffered. This is exactly what he wants her to. When they talk, she tells him he lost her baby. Jimmy feels sorry for happening that but now he perceives her differently. As he says that losing someone or seing someone die is like loosing a virginity. Now, when Alison loses her child he thinks they're »equal« in some way....
